At last Thursday afternoons kids art class we did a collage piece using maps and stamps. They turned out great. And Mamie was there to help.

Today we will paint our gourd birdhouses at the Retreat. A couple of the students yesterday helped me clean them. Use a little elbow grease!

Meet Kathy. She started taking classes with me on Wednesday mornings just a few months ago and she’s doing GREAT! She painted this delightful little sunflower last week in just one class. Good job Kathy. It’s beautiful.
Join us for art class on Wednesday morning from 10:30-Noon or Wednesday or Thursday afternoon from 5:30-7 p.m. We’d love to have you paint with us. Just email me at kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com for more information.

Here’s another sample gourd that I will be taking to the workshop I am teaching this weekend. This one is a “bird house”. 🙂
I patterned it after one that my mom painted for me over 20 years ago. I treasure it since we lost her to cancer not long after. It was fun painting one in a pattern like she had used.

Painting should be fun! As these delightful ladies found out last Friday evening. I was thrilled to paint with them at their “Girls Night Out” and we had a terrific time. Even though a couple were hesitant at first about giving it a try, in the end they were all really glad they did and thrilled with the result.
Painting Parties are great fun for kids or adults. And there are many, many subjects to choose from to tailor it to whatever theme you may have. Check out more information here and contact kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com to book your party today.
Great job ladies and thanks for all the laughs. I had fun too!

Last week I posted some photos of my art students painting their version of Stinkin’ Lincoln. See it here.
And I promised to complete my demo piece which I did this week. Here is the final version of mine that is now hanging on the wall with all my other dog paintings. We just love that little furry face!

Yesterday afternoon at out Kids Painting Class we painted Lincoln.

Lincoln would love this, of course, because he loves being the center of attention!
And didn’t Logan and Sam do fabulous jobs on their paintings.
And they did this is just one hour. WOW!
Just for a point of reference, this is the photo we used and my demo painting. I didn’t get finished with mine yet. But I will get to it. 🙂

As you know, I work with kids art classes on Wednesday and Thursday at 4:15 at the Blue Ridge Arts Council. And while I attempt to complete a painting, a still life, a landscape, etc., almost every week, this is what they would love to do. Drip paintings or splatter art is one of their favorites. This is a piece I did on wood with them several weeks ago. They love to just drip the paint and see what happens.
