When Edouard Manet was 49 he knew he was dying. He continued working but on a smaller scale than most of his work. Over the last months of his life he painted a series of small exquisite still lifes….mostly bouquets brought to him by friends who visited him while he was sick. We will recreate some of these over the next year. We will paint the first one, “Lilacs in a Glass” on Sunday, June 29th at 2 pm. Replicating famous painters work improves and teaches us a variety of skills. Join us on this journey to explote Manet’s final works at these Famous Painter sessions. A group of students from The Studio’s Wednesday morning and evening classes went to Richmond to see the Frida exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art. It was a wonderful day of art, laughter and fellowship! The exhibit was very interesting and confirmed what a tragic life she led. We saw several of her paintings including several self portraits as well as some amazing photography. If you are in the Richmond area while the exhibit is underway it would be worth your time. See more information here.

One of the things that I do each week is to make samples, whether it’s quilting or painting, for upcoming classes. Trying to stay ahead of the schedule and predict what people might like to paint or quilt is a challenge. I am always open to suggestions! These two table toppers are samples that I worked up for our May Table Topper Quilt classes. They were fun to make but a bit of a challenge to make it work in the timeframe we have for class. Later this week you will see the ones that our classes make. They’ll choose their colors and I know they will be fabulous!
