This tree swing looked so inviting. I took this photo at Nimrod last year when I attended an art workshop there. Here you can see the painting along with the reference photo.

The final tree in our Four Seasons series is the Summer Tree. We will be painting it at the Paint Party on Saturday, June 4th at 2 pm. Join us for this beautiful painting.
You don’t have to paint all four….this would be a lovely work without any of the others. But if you have been painting the series and have missed a tree we will be having a make-up session soon. Click here to register.

I do love to go places where there are lots of things to see and do and especially when there are great scenes for photos that may serve as reference photos for paintings. Yesterday I spent at day at Chincoteague and Assateague Islands taking LOTS of photos. There was a really neat “Artful Flea” event where many local artist sold their wares at the Farmer’s Market. I saw many nice pieces of art and crafts. My favorite was the decorated Flamingos that were for sale to benefit a local scholarship fund. Really cute and fun. Then off to the lighthouse for photos and a drive around Assateague to take wildlife photos.

Untitled 1968 – Cy Twombly
Modern Art is very popular at auctions. When I asked my students, however, it’s not always their favorite. But still…..it sells and sells big.
Take a look at the sale this week at Sotheby’s that fetched $242 million in sales including this Twombly Untitled piece from 1968 that went for $36.7 million. What do you think?
Take 2 minutes to watch this quick video that describes several modern art painters including Twombly’s “Blackboard” paintings.
