It’s time to register now to go learn at the Chickens in the Road Farm! I will be teaching again with my friend Suzanne McMinn at Sassafras Farm in West Virginia in September and October. Here is the info that Suzanne just posted on her blog: Chickens in the Road
This retreat will span two days, offered in both September and October, taking you from the kitchen, to the woods, and to the art easel with workshops including “Oh, Pioneer”–including corn cob jelly, hand-dipped tapers, homemade potpourri, rustic breads, fresh lard, and burnt sugar cake, along with “Let’s Paint Primitive”–an awesome art experience in which you’ll be led step-by-step to create two works of art, one on canvas and one on a old-fashioned bucket. (No prior experience required!) Three meals per day are included along with all your supplies, materials, and take-home projects. All workshops and activities will take place at Sassafras Farm in Roane County, West Virginia. Click here for information on registration.

A few weeks ago a gentleman came by The Studio asking about portraits. He had a pretty faint photo of a horse that belongs to his daughter and he wanted it done for her birthday. This is the horse. I do quite a few dog portraits, even some cats but very seldom do I get to do a horse.
They were very happy with the results.

Summer Art Camp wrapped up yesterday with ten young painters, ages 5-7, recreating the wonderful Matisse painting – Interior with a Dog (although a couple of them made them into cats). Great job!
We have had a wonderful summer of Art Camp Painters and will be announcing soon some dates for weekend workshops and a holiday camp. We hope to see you all there!

My youngest group of Art Campers, ages 5-7, painted a wonderful copy of “Van Gogh’s Sprig of Almond” and what an amazing job they did!
Good work everyone. And many thanks to my student Logan who came in to work as my assistant with this young group. She was terrific at everything from mixing paint to opening water bottles at break! 🙂
