Let the Games Begin is an oil on 9″x12″ canvas and is available for $145.
This is another of those paintings that was started in art class and then I got busy helping students and never got back to it. I am trying to wrap up a few of these and get my stack of unfinished paintings eliminated. I’ll keep at it.
In the meantime, I wanted to share this photo from yesterday morning. My dogs often bark in the backyard, much to my neighbors dismay. This is what I saw laying in her yard and I’m thinking maybe that’s why the dogs are barking so much!
Kids Paint a Beach Scene

Yesterday at Art Class my young students painted a beach scene. They had requested that we do a beach landscape several weeks ago. So we did. And didn’t they do a fabulous job!!! Keep in mind that the class is only an hour-long and they did this in that time. Good work everybody!

One of my regular Art Class students asked me a few weeks ago if I would work with her grandchildren when they visited this month. And, of course, I said yes. And boy did they turn out to be the most delightful kids. Evan and Lane are from Washington, DC but were here for a few days visiting the grandparents.
They came in with the best attitudes about taking the class and were all about having a good time and learning. What fun that makes it for me. 🙂
And for their first time in painting class, they both did an excellent job! Don’t you think?
Come back anytime. You were both so much fun.

Roses by the Door

Roses by the Door is an oil on canvas measuring 12″x12″ and is available for $195 framed. This is the second in the House and Garden series of paintings. (Click here to see the first one.)
Thanks to everyone who sent good wishes for Lincoln. He is a little sport, that’s for sure. To answer a few questions that came in about him:
I think (and my vet agrees) that he is a Dachshund/Airedale Terrier mix. Not sure how that happened but it must have involved a ladder.
And we think he is about 1 year to a year and a half old so we have given him Lincoln’s birthday in February. Appropriate for him!
And he must be a painter because when I got home from art class last night he had turned over a trash can and dug out a piece of palette paper that I had thrown out that had oil paint on it and he painted a rug and the hardwood floor. Maybe I should have named him Picasso!

This is Charlee. You’ve seen her before on my blog as she is one of my best young students. She really has an eye for art and loves it. Recently we had a private session where she painted this portrait of her cousin, Austin. She did it for his birthday. I think it turned out fabulous. I especially love the way “Woody” is peeking in the corner of the painting. Great job Charlee!
Tony just joined our Wednesday Art Class. This is the first painting that he completed with me. We were very impressed with how great it was. Keep painting Tony. You are doing a super job!

Lighthouse at Martha’s Vineyard, after Ray Ellis is an oil on canvas panel measuring 12″x24″ and is available for $245. This was a demonstration in art class that one of the students asked to do as she is going to visit relatives next month at Martha’s Vineyard and wanted to paint something for them.
Ray Ellis is a wonderful artist who used to live at the Vineyard and now lives in Savannah. He does many wonderful landscapes and still life and we have studied his work.
Don’t forget tonight is 3rd Thursday Art Walk and the Opening Reception for the Member Show at the Blue Ridge Arts Council.
Dogs, dogs, dogs…..

One of the things I love best about having Delilah’s Art & Gift Gallery in Front Royal, beside the art, is that we are pet friendly and almost every time I am there someone comes by with their dogs. Of course, I invite them in. I keep treats just for such an occasion. And usually I make new friends through this process.
Recently, Hershey and Cocoa came in with their parents and their mom made this photo of them with me and just sent it to me. I think they enjoyed their visit. I know I did.
My art classes are pet friendly also. I few months ago I had a new student join the Wednesday night class and her one caveat was that Waffles had to come to class too. And of course, that was not problem. Now Waffles comes to class each week and has fast become my favorite “art student”. She is so good. She stays in her little bag, unless I sneak her out. Much to her Mom’s dismay, I often take her out and carry her around the class with me as we help students with their paintings. She has a great eye for art!
