A Landscape Lesson is an oil on canvas panel measuring 9″x12″. This was a lesson for new students in art class. By using this composition we were able to learn to paint sky, mountains, trees, buildings, grass, and water. We covered a lot of subjects with this one.

It’s hard to be a “neat” painter. This is the easel I used for most of the paintings I work on at home. It’s messy but I need my stuff close at hand in able to work effectively.
And it takes a lot of “stuff” not only for painting, but also for framing, matting, hanging, promoting, marketing, etc. An artist’s studio or work area often is filled with materials and “stuff”!

Lighthouse at Martha’s Vineyard, after Ray Ellis is an oil on canvas panel measuring 12″x24″ and is available for $245. This was a demonstration in art class that one of the students asked to do as she is going to visit relatives next month at Martha’s Vineyard and wanted to paint something for them.
Ray Ellis is a wonderful artist who used to live at the Vineyard and now lives in Savannah. He does many wonderful landscapes and still life and we have studied his work.
Don’t forget tonight is 3rd Thursday Art Walk and the Opening Reception for the Member Show at the Blue Ridge Arts Council.

Hollyhocks Mountain View is an acrylic on canvas panel measuring 10″x8″ available for $195 framed. This painting can be seen at the new Main Street Bookstore along with several other paintings.
I haven’t painted as much over the last week as I would like. It’s been a difficult few weeks with loosing Truman and then Jed got injured over the weekend when he had a run in with a truck! He’s doing ok but is very sore. He’s getting a little better everyday but I’m playing puppy nurse again and that takes quite a bit of time.
This is Jed in his little thundershirt…he’s scared of thunder on top of his injury and with the weather we have been having in the afternoons it just compounds the need for a “nurse”. It’s always something.
Just a reminder that the 3rd Thursday Art Walk is tomorrow evening from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Front Royal. And at 5:30 the reception for the Blue Ridge Arts Council member show will take place. Come to BRAC and check out the 80 new pieces of art that local members have entered. Winners will be announced around 6:15. Please come downtown and enjoy the arts!

It’s always exciting when a show goes up but the coming down is kind of sad.
This was my favorite piece in “Minds Wide Open” abstract show that just ended at the Blue Ridge Arts Council.
Now to find a place for all these large paintings.
Maybe some will go to Delilah’s….and some may go to other shops.
The gallery is so empty and sad. Good thing that the Arts Council member show goes up this week. It’s a terrific show featuring new work by arts council members. Don’t forget to stop in and see it. The opening reception will be Thursday at 5:00….same night as the Art Walk downtown. Plan to come down for a great evening of art!

Jed’s been laying around a little depressed this week so we went to the cabin for a couple of nights. We are both feeling better after the tough week we had last week so I will have new paintings to post tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone for your kind words and cards about the loss of Truman. We are still missing him so much but know he is better off where he is. Thanks again.

My niece Morgan and sister-in-law Debbie rolled in Saturday evening for an overnight. They go to their cottage in Maine for the summer and my house is half-way along the route so I am the wayside stop for them. 🙂 Jed is thrilled it works out that way as you can see he and Morgan have a mutual admiration society going.
Their little dog Tam, a Westie, and two cats, Star and Stripes, are with them too. Tam is a cute little guy but has had a couple of health issues and he has been licking his leg. His mean mama, my sister-in-law, puts a cone on his head to make him not lick at night. He looks pitiful.
While Tam had the cone on head, he came into my bedroom and looked into the bathroom and saw himself in the mirror and started growling and barking….and wouldn’t stop. He thought that dog looked weird too! Poor little Tam. Hopefully his leg will heal soon and he won’t have to be a conehead any longer.
Jed and I will be looking forward to the return trip in August. On the return they will stay a few nights and maybe Tam won’t be a conehead any more!

Tangerine is an acrylic on canvas measuring 24″x30″. This is another piece that I have just completed for the BRAC member show coming up later this month.
I was asked again recently if I would take pictures during the process of painting to post along with the completed piece. I did take a photo of the start of this one but I get wrapped up in painting and forget to take more. I’ll try to do better and post the process more soon.
