It’s the quiet before the storm….storm of sewing, that is! The Quilter’s Retreat started yesterday afternoon and while I didn’t get here till early evening I tried to catch up by sewing until 11 pm. And now, as usual, I am the first one up. I just can’t seen to sleep past 5 am. It’s kind of nice in the quiet minutes before all the machines fire up. I can’t wait to see what everyone is doing! More to come.

A few weeks ago my friend Jackie gave me this beautiful crochet item. It appeared to be 4 placemats crocheted from crochet thread . My grandmother used to work with crochet thread but I have never been able to work with such small stuff. But I do love how it looks so I was thrilled when Jackie gave these to me. I sewed them together to make a table runner and it looks so pretty and happy. Thanks Jackie for thinking of me with this beautiful gift of craftsmanship. It’s just lovely!!!!

A Belated Birthday Gift

I’ve been meaning to share this. Last month, my friend, Denise, who is an amazing artist that owns The Mud Peddler in Shepherdstown, WV, delivered this piece that she created for my birthday. It’s a pottery replica of The Studio!!!! And I just love it. It even has an opening in the bottom where I can put tea lights in it to make it glow. What a beautiful gift. Every time I look at it I see another detail. It’s just so amazing. Thanks Denise. Your art is terrific!!!

Several years ago I found my first Featherweight Sewing machine at an auction…a 1946 beauty. (Read about her here.) And ever since then I have been hoping to find a 1961 Featherweight to go along with her. I’m still looking for that ’61 but I ran across this beauty recently….a one owner 1964 Featherweight! She looks like she just came off the factory line. And since there is a tradition with Featherweights to give them a name I have decided to call this one Lucille for my maternal grandmother. (My first Featherweight is named Nola Mae for my paternal grandmother who taught me to sew.) Have a mentioned that I love these little machines?! They make the BEST stitch as anyone who has ever sewed on one will tell you. I am thrilled the “Lucille” now resides with me and will help me make some beautiful quilts in the future. Now just one more Featherweight to find….that elusive 1961! And I am really hoping to find a tan one so then I will have the trifecta of Featherweights….one in each color! Wish me luck.

Twenty-six years ago I used this ticket to attend Game 6 of the World Series in Atlanta. That night in 1995 the Atlanta Braves won the World Series. It was such an exciting evening and one I still remember so well. My mom was a huge Braves fan and she had passed away the year before. I had a feeling all during that series as I watched that this was their year…and it was! And when the Braves won in that 6th game I felt like Mama was there in Atlanta with me. It was a wonderful feeling. And now, the Braves have done it again in six games. WooHoo! And what better year to win after the travesty of moving the All-Star Game out of Atlanta earlier this year….something that should have never happened. Go Braves! Your the best!!!!
