Mama 2You would think that twenty-five years would make memories fade but I can remember everything about that day.  The call came very early in the morning to tell me that my mama had died.  She had fought cancer for many years and finally it took her.  She was young, just 52, too young….and I still think of her and miss her every day.  I think about how she would have enjoyed these years that she has missed.  She would have loved Morgan and Alexis, her granddaughters.  Seeing them grow up would have given her such great joy.  She would have enjoyed watching the paths that Brother, Sister and I have taken.  And I think she would have loved to see The Studio and sent me great ideas for classes.  I’ll never understand why she had to die so young. She was truly the best person I have known…and I still miss her every day.

Giving Thanks for Jed

It’s been several days now since we lost Jed.  I was cleaning up a few things in my home studio when I found photos from when Jed first came to us. It was estimated that he was about 1 1/2 years old then but as he was picked up as a stray it’s still a guess as to what was his real age. He was such a gentle sweet boy…always happy…always wanting to please everyone.  It never gets easier saying goodbye to our dear pets but today we are trying to look back at all the joy and remember those good times.  I am sharing one of the first photos I took of Jed when he came to our home.  He loved laying up in the window seat watching everything outside.  And the other photo is the last I took of him right outside that same window, sitting in the sunshine.  He was a lovely boy.

It’s rare that I get a day off when there is a great class being offered nearby that I can take.  It happened yesterday!  I went to The Mud Peddler Studio in Shepherdstown, WV and painted with my friend, Denise Kupiszewski.  She is an excellent teacher and helps you create beautiful pieces.  The event was so much fun that I can’t wait to try again.  We decorated two bowls, one we keep and the other is going to a fundraiser for a charity.  Nice, huh?  Everyone did something totally different and they were all fabulous.  Thanks Denise.  Let’s do it again soon…and maybe this time in Front Royal!

More with Georgia O’Keeffe….and the amazing show at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh.

We saw several of her paintings that we hadn’t seen before and they were wonderful.  I especially like the figure one and the Evening Star.

As much as I hate to put Christmas paintings up this early I do have to paint them early enough to set up classes and give people time to plan to attend the Paint Parties.  So here are two “Holiday Cheer” paintings that we will be doing at the December 1st Paint Party at 2 pm. (Click here to register for it.) Painters will have their choice of shapes and colors.  And as a bonus, when we finish the paint party it will be time for the annual Christmas Parade and we can watch it from the porch of The Studio.  Sounds like fun, huh??!!
