20170606_074521I made a day trip to Boston yesterday (yes, it’s a long way for a day trip) to see the Matisse exhibit.  What an amazing display!!!  I admit that I am a BIG fan of Matisse.   But anyone who appreciates art and creating it would love this exhibit.

The premise of the exhibit is to feature the many objects, fabrics, furniture and more that Matisse collected over the years and how he used them in many of his paintings.

Over the next few days I will attempt to share with you some of the wonderful things I saw.

20170606_080522Enjoy!

Famous Painters

3cb756b12d142775ecce7c99c9316078 tLast year we started having a Paint Party once a month where we recreate a “Famous Painting” or  paint in the style of a famous artist.

So far we have recreated a Van Gogh, a Cassatt, an O’Keeffe and a Pissarro.  And they all look GREAT!  This particular party is a little more involved than some of the other Paint Parties but anyone can do it.  We use the same format, going step-by-step until each painter has a beautiful painting.

We are starting the year with a Matisse inspired painting on Tuesday, January 26th at 6 pm.  Why not join us and see how it feels to paint like the famous ones?  Click here to register.

The Barnes Collection in Philly

Albert Barnes is a collector that I became aware in the last few years and have become fascinated by him and his story.  From 1912 to 1951 he collected one of the  world’s most important collections of post-impressionist and early modern art.  His collection is valued at approximately $25 billion.  He collected what he liked.  He wanted to share it for people to study and learn and he hung his art in a way that made that possible.

He collected a large amount of Matisse, one of my favorites in the last few years.  This is a shot of the Three Sisters, three different panels that Matisse sold to different collectors but that Barnes reunited much to Matisse’s delight.  He said, “I’m glad you have brought them back together; they just didn’t work well apart.”

I was overwhelmed by the Barnes.  It is a MUST see for anyone at all interested in art.  I’ll be sharing more tomorrow.
