Last night at our adult painting class we worked on miniature paintings. This is the time of year we like to work on these because they make great Christmas gifts for friends. Here are three that I did: (Top-Bottom: A View of Signal Knob, oil, 3″x5″; The Little Shed, oil, 3″x 5″; AnotherView of Signal Knob, oil, 4″x6″.) Interested in miniatures for gifts? Anyone Can Paint

I was asked to speak and do a demonstration painting for the Front Royal Christian Women’s Connection at Shenandoah Country Club last week. Their theme for the month was “Anyone Can Paint”. And I was thrilled they invited me to share. I had 15 minutes to do this little painting and to talk about how I got started painting. As you know I am always telling people that all they need to paint is desire. I really think anyone who is interested in painting can do it. And that is why I love teaching and helping people develop their desire to paint. If you’d like to try it contact kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com for more info or check it out here.

Miss Gaylor is one of my oldest students. She paints with me each week at The Southerlands. And she prefers painting strawberries if at all possible. This past Tuesday she painted these. She always tells me she can’t see what she is painting but I don’t believe her. Didn’t she do great? Read more about Miss Gaylor here.
The Monster Painted Shelf

I have been wanting to add shelves to my kitchen. My kitchen is small with limited cabinet space so when I was up at Allen’s warehouse where I have some furniture stored and remembered that this piece was there, I was thrilled. We moved it to the house on Sunday before the storm. And it was a pain to move because it weighs a ton! Yesterday I started painting, and painting, and painting. Shelves like this are hard to paint…and take forever. Plus I used an oil-based cabinet paint so it was extremely messy. But it’s almost done. Needs a little more paint in a couple of spots and I need to sand the top of the doors down to get them to close properly but it’s almost done. I like it.
Snow? Really?

It’s not even Halloween yet and with Sandy headed our way we are hearing that we may have snow…and almost certainly power outages.
We are hunkered down here with plenty of supplies for the pups and me just waiting to see what happens. At least I’ll get early snow reference photos this year. 🙂

Scattered Rugs

I grew up in Southeast Georgia. It’s really low and flat there and our falls never had colors like we see here in Virginia. My mother loved the colors so we always traveled to the “mountains” in the fall to enjoy the season. We usually went to the Great Smokey Mountains. The colors there are a lot like here.
Several years ago Allen and I took his 90-year-old aunt, Honnie, over to West Virginia to visit her other nephew at his mountain house. This is the view from their deck. Honnie called this painting “Scattered Rugs” (oil on canvas, 18″x24″). And she wrote a poem about it. I’ve searched everywhere for where I put the poem and when I find it I’ll post it here for you all to see.
