The very first Paint Party ever at Capon Springs was a HUGE success!  The painters were terrific and did a fabulous job creating a beautiful work of art featuring the Band Stand at the Resort.

Capon Springs is an all inclusive family mountain resort …. and while it is only about 32 miles from Front Royal it seems a really long way away.  It’s like going back in time.  I told my friend who went last night to help with the Paint Party that it is “32 miles and 6 decades away”!  It’s wonderful.  You can learn more about it here.  We had a grand time enjoying dinner there before the Paint Party.  It was delightful to see all these multi-generational families sitting together passes plates and bowls of food around the table and having conversations while dining.  I am thrilled that Jonathan, one of the owners of this gem, has invited me to come back and teach again.

I’ll be back for another Paint Party and we will also be offering a multi disciplined Art Week in the Fall.  Stay tuned for more info soon.  You will definitely want to plan to go for a few days.

One of the most striking things at the Matisse in the Studio exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston was the fabrics he used in his works.

He had some rich textiles with interesting shapes and colors that he used as backdrops and drapes in many of his paintings.

Sometimes he just used the shapes and designs and changed up the colors to suit his need.

It was fascinating to see them side by side with the paintings.  This may be the best exhibit I have ever visited.

It was just amazing!  I have so many more photos but I think with the ones posted earlier this week as well as the ones today you have gotten a good idea of what the exhibit was about and how Matisse went about his process.

I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

What struck me most as I saw the Matisse in The Studio exhibit is how he used his collection of objects time and time again in his paintings.  He had a group of items that were special to him and often put them in his still-life set-ups.  In this series today you will see his chocolate pots.

We are continuing today with more from the “Matisse in the Studio” exhibit at Museum of Fine Art Boston.

As I mentioned yesterday, it was AMAZING!  Here you can click to check out more information.   From the MFA-Boston website:  “Inspiration is everywhere!  Henri Matisse—who revolutionized 20th-century art—believed that a treasured group of objects was instrumental to his studio practice. “Matisse in the Studio” is the first major international exhibition to examine the importance of Matisse’s personal collection of objects, offering unprecedented insight into the great artist’s creativity. See these rare pairings of Matisse’s major works with objects of inspiration in “Matisse in the Studio” in its only US venue at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.”

20170606_074521I made a day trip to Boston yesterday (yes, it’s a long way for a day trip) to see the Matisse exhibit.  What an amazing display!!!  I admit that I am a BIG fan of Matisse.   But anyone who appreciates art and creating it would love this exhibit.

The premise of the exhibit is to feature the many objects, fabrics, furniture and more that Matisse collected over the years and how he used them in many of his paintings.

Over the next few days I will attempt to share with you some of the wonderful things I saw.

We made a quick trip to the Quilt Show in Chantilly yesterday.  It was the first time I had been and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the quilts on display.  The amazing work that went into these beautiful creations was too hard to even describe.  Here is just a sampling of what I saw.

And speaking of sampling…… I am obsessed with these sampler quilts.  I think this is the  next big project.  And of course, there were wonderful vendors with terrific new projects for us to try. 20170604_185539 I particularly love the things at “Epicurean Boutique”.  Patty Vatter had the most glorious patterns for handwork.  You  need to check her out on Facebook to catch her next show.

20170601_071211 Michele has been working on this gorgeous abstract painting for a couple of weeks at class.  Sometimes we all need to paint an abstract to loosen up and get our creative juices flowing.  That is what Michele did and it turned out amazing.  Great work!

We painted a floral painting this week in the style of Matisse.  The kids got to pick their colors and they went right to work. We talked about Matisse as I get ready to go see a Matisse exhibit in Boston.  Can’t wait to see it.
