Animals Llama 5 Animals Llama 2 Animals Llama 8 Animals Llama 10There are very few days that I don’t actually paint.  Yesterday was one of them.  I spent the afternoon riding around the county taking photos of animals for an upcoming workshop that I will be attending on “Painting Animals”.  I’m very excited to be taking the workshop.  It’s my birthday do-over since I was sick on my birthday this year.  A good do-over, huh?!

These are some of the photos that I got yesterday.  A good friend was kind enough to let me come to his place and get some Llama shots.  I have been wanting to paint one so here is my chance.  Just look at that FACE!!!

Art Campers Paint Cassett

Art Campers Paint Cassett

We started the final week of Art Camp this summer by studying Mary Cassett, one of the few female impressionists of the time.  The young artists did a marvelous job with the extraordinarily difficult painting.  Keep in mind they did this in just one session!  Great job everyone.  Can’t wait to see the rest of your good work this week.

Long Green Finished A few weeks ago I shared with you my day at Long Green where I went to paint with other artists for an upcoming show that will benefit Blue Ridge Hospice.  (Read more about it here.)  I completed one of the paintings that I started that day.  When I get more details about the show I will pass it along.

I am always so proud of my art students and love sharing their work with you.  I often post photos of the kids paintings and forget to take photos of the adults as they finish their paintings.  But yesterday it seems that everyone was finishing paintings at the same time so I got some great shots.  These are all Wednesday morning or evening students.  Keep it up girls.  Great job by all!!!

Barn - A Good Start

Barn – Laying in Background and Foreground

I had a delightful day of painting at Long Green yesterday.  (See here the set-up for my first painting there.)  Here is the progress I made.  It was a bright sunny day so the shadows kept moving…and fast!  But I got the first painting, the barn to a point of about 85% finished.

Now I will tinker on it in the studio until it’s done.  The Long Green Paint Out is for an upcoming fundraiser for Blue Ridge Hospice.  They are going to have a “Decorator’s Showcase” there in September that will be open to the public.  More info to come as I get it.  And our paintings will be on display and for sale to benefit Hospice.

Kids paint fence and gate landscapeThe Thursday kids class painted a beautiful local landscape with a fence and gate in the foreground.  They are fantastic!  Good job everyone.

Southerlands GaylorAnd I am sad to say that I will no longer be working with the wonderful ladies at the Southerlands.  They have discontinued their art program.  I will miss all the fun we have had.  Here is Miss Gaylor with the last painting I helped her paint.  I will miss them.

Art at the Mill-Spring 2013

I drove over to Millwood this week to see “Art at the Mill” at the Burwell-Morgan Mill.  The mill was built in 1785 and is the oldest operable mill in the Shenandoah Valley.  It’s on the Historic Register and is open to the public.  You can learn more about the Mill and their hours here.    “Art at the Mill” is a fundraiser that the volunteers put on twice a year to raise money to support this wonderful old structure.  If you have a chance drive over to see this wonderful show before Sunday be sure to go.  The show runs through May 12th.
