Born November 15, 1887, Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist who became known for her large floral blossom paintings, bone paintings, and landscapes around her New Mexico home.  She is often called the “Mother of American Modernism”.  Her vision was unique and she stood by it often saying that her work spoke for her and it  didn’t need her words to enhance it.

Almost everyone will recognize an O’Keeffe painting when seeing one as it has a distinct look and style.  She lived until 1986. You can learn more about her by visiting the O’Keeffe Museum website here.

Kaylee with PoppyI got to paint with my young friend, Kaylee, yesterday for the first time in quite a while.  She used to paint with me every week so I have missed seeing her.    We had a nice visit while she painted this beautiful piece for her great-grandmother Edna who she will be visiting in a few weeks.  I know that she will love this thoughtful gift.  Nice job Kaylee!

While visiting Florida last week I got to see St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Art.  It was a wonderful museum with a nice variety of art.  I was drawn to the Georgia O’Keeffe paintings especially after my kids had just painted an O’Keeffe the week before.  (See that here.)  You can learn more about the poppy painting by clicking here.    You can learn more about the St. Petersburg Museum by going to www.fine-arts.org .
