What a treat to relax and have coffee in bed. I’m taking a weekend off from painting and instead came to Washington DC to look at some wonderful art and become inspired. More to share in the days to come.

American Impressionists at MSV

Yesterday was a rainy, messy day but that didn’t stop my friend Linda and I from a little day out. We had a delightful day riding over to Middleburg, a cute little town about 25 miles from Front Royal, where we visited our favorite shop. Then we rode over to the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester to see the new visiting exhibit: American Impressionists. It was a nice collection from the Reading Museum of painters from all around America who painted in the impressionistic style. While they did not allow photography in the exhibit you can see more about it with some photos here. It’s worth a trip to see while it’s here.
What a Nice Surprise!

A Day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art
Posted in Serendipity, Travel, tagged daily painter, impressionism, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Virginia Artist on April 14, 2013| Leave a Comment »
I spent a lovely day yesterday in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I went on a bus trip with a nice group of people who went as a fundraiser for a Relay for Life team and I was told we raised over $500 for them. Yeah!
I went specifically to see the exhibit- Impressionism, Fashion and Modernity. And it was well worth the trip. There were over 80 major paintings of figures clothed in lovely period clothing with actual fashions from the time being shown with the art. It was fabulous! You can read more about it here on the Mets website.
This painting, “In the Conservatory (Madame Bartholome) by Albert Bartholome shows his wife entering a door. Displayed by the painting was the actual dress she wore in the painting. It was fascinating to see.
If you have an opportunity to get to New York before the show closes on May 22nd be sure to stop into the Metropolitan and enjoy this wonderful exhibit.
Tomorrow I will share my FAVORITE!
Fabulously Talented Artists at the Fine Arts Festival

I really enjoyed my visit yesterday to the Fine Arts Festival at Warren County High School. It featured art from students in the entire school system. The art teachers are doing a terrific job with these kids.
I ran into my friend Reece who showed me this wonderful self-portrait that he did. He turn 17 today! Happy Birthday Reece.
I also saw art by one of my students, Logan. She drew a splendid owl. Great job Logan. There was so much to see! It was energetic and captivating. Wonderful job by the artists and their teachers.
Valentine’s Bouquet – Two Interpretations

Last Thursday, Valentine’s Day, one of my students brought this lovely bouquet of flowers to me at class. So we immediately set it up on the table and put a solid paper behind it to make it work for us as a painting.
And the final photo in this post is Cathy, my thoughtful student who gave me the flowers and this is her version of the same bouquet. This is a great example of how different things look when you are sitting just a few feet apart but looking from a different angle. Every painter’s interpretation is different. Thanks again Cathy for the beautiful flowers.
Happy Birthday Allen

Today is Allen’s birthday. He treats his birthday as just another day. We keep telling him that it is his special day and we should celebrate. We want to celebrate all the things that makes him so special – his caring ways, his fun personality, his dry sense of humor, his love and caring for me and the dogs, his love for his cats (all 6 of them!). He’s a good, good man and we are lucky to have him in our lives.
So Happy Birthday Allen! We love you!
