The Stash

Yarn Stash

As I teach more classes in crocheting and sewing I have come to realize that I have become one of those people.  You know, the ones who keep a stash of yarn and/or fabric.  My Granny was one.  She always had a big stack of fabric so that whenever she wanted to “run up a frock” she would have just what she needed.

When you love yarn and fabric it’s hard not to buy it when you find a good deal.  We always have an idea of what we might do with it but it is just hard to get to every project we want to get done.   I have LOTS of yarn and fabric and I do have ideas for ALL of it.  And one day, maybe when we add 3 or 4 more hours to each day, I will get to it all.  I know Granny would understand and probably be proud of the stash I have.

Soon I will share some “Stash Buster” ideas for all that good stuff you have lying around.

Another Daisy

DaisyA few weeks ago we had a visitor for a week – Daisy.  (You can read more about her here.)  While she was here I made her a little sweater and a friend in Kentucky saw it and wanted one  for her Daisy.  I just finished it up and will be getting it off in the mail soon.  Crocheting dog sweaters is fun and if you crochet you can click the Crochet tab above and give this pattern a try.  Have fun.

2015-01-11 17 35 39_resized Crochet InfinityWe had our Beginning Crochet Class at The Studio yesterday with a full house.  Everyone got a great start on their Diamond Lattice Infinity Scarf.

This is a super easy pattern for beginning crocheters and it’s pretty enough that long-time crocheters will want to do it too.  Many thanks to Jen Keng of Classy Crochet for making this pattern available for us to use.  I love that you can find wonderful patterns all over the internet to keep trying new and fun projects.

Here is the pattern (or you can see it on the site link above).  This pattern works best with bulky yarn.

Easy Diamond Lattice Infinity Scarf

Chain 30.  (You can chain 25 if you want a little smaller scarf.)

Row 1: Slip stitch into the 10th chain from the hook.  Chain 5, count every 5 chains, slip stitch, repeat to the end.

Row 2: Chain 5, turn, and slip stitch into the middle of the chain 5 loop.  Repeat: chain 5 and slip stitch into the middle chain of each loop.

End of row 2.  Chain 5, turn, and repeat.  Continue until scarf is desired length.

Join by laying the ends together and whipping them up with a large yarn needle.

We have had a visitor staying with us this week.

DAISY!  She is a little Westie that just turned one year old.

What fun she has been.  She has stirred Lincoln up and Jed has just tried to steer clear of the craziness.  Since she is just a puppy she has gotten into a lot of “things” this week and been very lively.  🙂

It has been VERY cold this week so I put one of Mamie’s sweater’s on Daisy but it was a little large.  That just meant one thing – Daisy needed a sweater made just for her!  (Here is the pattern for the dog sweater.  It is written for a dog the size of Lincoln but you can adjust it for larger or smaller dogs.)

So I made this green sweater using bulky yarn.  And of course, we needed to decorate it with a daisy – her signature flower.  I think she looks adorable.

Daisy goes home this eveningg and we will miss her terribly.  But the good news is that she just lives a few doors down the street so I am hoping I can convince her mom that she needs to come back often for more adventures.  What do you think?

Janet modeling Infinity Scarf

I spent some time working on another Infinity Scarf.  We have a Beginning Crochet class coming up this Sunday at The Studio and I made one sample scarf but decided to do another and make it a little smaller so the students can see the difference.

Lincoln was nice enough to model this one for me since Janet wasn’t here to model like she did the first one.  🙂

Be sure to check out the calendar for classes coming up at The Studio-A Place for Learning.

Crochet Mickey

Crochet Mickey

A month or so ago a friend asked me to crochet a Mickey Mouse outfit for her newborn grandson.  Really?  So, of course, I said I would give it a try.  (Actually I said you crochet too.  Why don’t you try it? LOL)  And here it the result.

I am hoping she takes a photo of him soon in it so I can see how it turned out.

Counting Sheep Blanket
30″ x 32″

I have been trying to get this one finished for some time now.  Just couldn’t find time to sew the sheep on.  I call this “Counting Sheep” and it measures 32″ x 30″.  The blanket is crocheted with crocheted appliques of sheep sewn to it.

I love how the little sheep show up on the Iris Blue background.  This one is available at Delilah’s or by contacting me directly.
