Last year my friend Mario shared a wonderful photo of his son riding his bike for the first time without training wheels.  I loved it so I painted it yesterday.  Thanks Mario for allowing me to paint from such a terrific photo.

Mario & Son“, oil on panel, 8″x6”.

Got to paint outdoors in this beautiful weather this weekend out at the cabin.  I got a great start on a piece but when I got home yesterday and wanted to put finishing touches on it I realized that I had left it there.  So maybe I can finish it up in a few weeks.

And this is what the helpers do while I paint.  What would I do without them?  🙂

Generally during Spring Break I have only one or two students who come to art class.  Imagine my surprise when Wednesday I had 12 students!  Wow!!!

They all did a great job.  We painted a beautiful landscape of a gate that is out from Millwood.

The Thursday class did a fine job with the same painting too.  Great job everyone.

We had a really fun workshop in Strasburg on Saturday with our Abstract Floral and Landscape session.  Here is a student working on her very first painting.  Great job!  And the other photo is an abstract landscape that we also painted.  There will be another workshop on Saturday, March 10th in Front Royal.  Just email me at kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com if you would like to sign up.

Representational Abstract is a form of painting that combines the loose ease of abstract with art we recognize.  Even though we see the bright colors and long brush strokes in this work we can still see that it looks like a landscape scene.

This is some of the things we will explore on Saturday at the Art Workshop in Strasburg.  Join us for three hours of fun and learning.  Contact kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com .

This is a commission that I did for Christmas for some friends who live in Hilton Head.

They wanted a front and back version of their home in one piece so these are acrylic on watercolor paper and they are framed together.

A few days ago I told you about my friend Suzanne McMinn with a blog called Chickens in the Road.  I am painting this in order to make a poster for her upcoming Retreat.

I took a few photos of he painting along the way so that I could show you the progress.

And this is how it turned out.  “Chickens in the Road” is an oil painting on canvas measuring 16″x20″.  I think it will work well for a poster for the upcoming retreat.  All of the attendees will receive one as a memento of the weekend.  I’m looking forward to it as I will be teaching some painting sessions.  You can see more about them on the workshop tab above or here.
