An unexpected and delightful surprise in Hamilton was the Missouri Quilt Museum located in an old multi-story school house. There were some amazing displays there from quilts to a machine collection and a miniature doll quilt collection. And the best part was the young man who was there to sell the tickets. His family runs the museum and he was a wealth of information. And he was thrilled to show us the quilt he had made. At 12 years old he is already on his way to be a terrific quilter.

We spent the day in Hamilton Missouri better known as Quilt Town USA due to the Missouri Star Quilt Company. Jenny Doan and her family started a small quilting business there 15 years ago that boomed into 12 shops and a very successful online business. Jenny does terrific YouTube instructional videos on quilting and has become a star in the quilting world. On the way to Hamilton we listened to Jenny’s autobiography – How to Stitch an American Dream: A Story of Family, Faith and the Power of Giving. It made the visit to Hamilton even more interesting knowing how it all started. The first thing we did was go on a tour of the warehouse to see how it all worked. So interesting to see, especially the 30 long arm quilting machines they use to quilt all the projects that are sent to them. They do about 500 a week! WOW!!! Even though it rained most of the day we still had a great job shopping the 12 MSQC along the street. There were 5 quilters on the trip and one of our friends couldn’t make it at the last minute so we took her along in spirit and had photo ops with her along the way. You see a photo of her here with Barbara checking out BLOCK magazine – a production of MSQC. Then we loaded up the van to go again.

Last Saturday a group of quilters left on a Fabric Acquisition Road Trip to Missouri. We have had so much fun so far stopping at many, many quilt shops along the way as well as other roadside attractions. I thought I should catch up on what we have done so far. We went from Virginia to Ohio for our first stop and saw lots of farmland, windmills, barns and barn quilts.
We have seen so many odd things along the way…including the mobile Baptismal running along the interstate!

Arrived yesterday afternoon for a quilting retreat in New Freedom PA at Summit Grove. There is a great group of quilters here…. All set up and working on some amazing projects. Can’t wait to see how they turn out! Stay tuned.

I completed this Starlight, Starbright quilt based on a Missouri Star Quilt Company pattern. I altered it a bit with a border around the star. This one I made as a traditional quilt top and sent it out to be longarm quilted. It turned out great! I love the look. It was made using charm packs (5″ squares) plus some yardage for the star and borders. I’m excited to share this one now as we have a tour group leaving next month to go visit the Missouri Star Quilt Company in Hamilton MO. We will be making several stops along the way there and back to visit fabric and quilt related businesses. We’ll be gone for 9 days and I know we will see and acquire lots of great quilt related items. Stay tuned to see more about our adventure. And in the meantime watch in the next few days our Quilt Sale.

Today we are wishing a Happy 14th Birthday to our Lincoln. He has been living his best life for all 14 of them! We want to thank everyone who has been so kind to him all these years as he has greeted you at The Studio. He loves his job and takes it seriously. With all the game playing and museum visiting you wouldn’t think we would have had time to get much accomplished….but just look at all the great projects we made. We quilted, crocheted, knitted, make rugs, and more! We are a creative, fun-loving group! Can you tell???!!!! We can’t wait till the next one!

During the Stitching Retreat we took a morning off to make a little road trip to Harrisonburg to see the Virginia Quilt Museum. It was AWESOME! There was an amazing exhibit of antique star quilts. I LOVE a star quilt so I really enjoyed seeing these. The photos don’t do it justice but you get the idea. If you get a chance be sure to go to Harrisonburg and check it out. This little guy is Duffy. He’s my nephew…my brother and sister-in-law’s pup. Isn’t he a cutie? This portrait was my gift to Debbie for Christmas. She likes it! 🙂

Don’t judge me! I love fabric….and no, there is NEVER ENOUGH FABRIC! While on vacation I found a great fabric shop that was just a couple of miles from where we were staying and I got some pretty pieces of fabric. And when I got home I needed just one more day away. I decided to make a run to the Lancaster area and do a little more fabric shopping. I may have gone overboard. LOL! I’m not worried though. I’ll use it up pretty quick. 🙂 Now to find a place to put it all.
