We started today with blank white block walls….

And soon there there was sky….

And mountains….

And a meadow and trees….

And Linda painted a cat, Spice, in the tree.

We still have lots of animals to add but it’s really coming along.

Then after dinner I got my second wind and painted the other cat, Sugar, in the mailbox.  Can you say special delivery??!!!

Famous Painters Art Camp continued yesterday with a study of Degas.  We painted a ballet dancer in his style.

Everyone did a great job on a very difficult subject.

Today we will continue with Van Gogh and maybe a little Jackson Pollack!

Visitors…

We often get visitors here at the house.

This is Morgan, my niece who was here a few weeks ago.  The boys LOVE her and she loves them.

In the window is Max visiting this week while his people are on vacation. He loves playing with Lincoln.

And you will remember Ordo.  He visits often since he stayed with us for a few weeks last May.  He also loves playing with Lincoln.  (Lincoln is such the little host!)

And this is Jen, Ordo’s mom, and Lincoln looking on.

We love having puppy visitors!

Yesterday in downtown Front Royal was the Fireman’s Parade.  Once a year they have a parade and roll out all of their equipment and all their beauty queens.

I have lived in several states and Virginia is the only one where I have experienced this phenomenon.  The kids loved it, lining the streets, waiting for candy to be thrown their way.  I love small town life!!!

Something you don’t see everyday…..

…a girl rolling a harp down the street.

After chatting with her, I found that she was on her way to the gazebo as part of the Celtic Festival on Saturday.  She was selling this harp because she had just gotten a new one.  Imagine!

The young artists, 4th graders, from all five elementary schools who participated in the 175th Anniversary Art project were honored last night at an Opening Reception of their work at the Community Center.  Their art will hang there until the end of July when it will return their schools as a permanent display.

Many students and parents turned out to see the five collages.  And so did the TV station.  Three of the students were interviewed for a story that ran last night on TV-3.

Good job girls!  (See there video here.)

Make time to stop by and see the beautiful art that these children created to honor the 175th Anniversary of Warren County!

(You can read more about the project on past posts in March and April of this blog and by starting here.)

A few weeks ago a good friend asked if I could paint a watercolor of the pond on her property.  Her dad’s 90th birthday was coming up and it was his “favorite” place and she wanted to give it to him.

We rode out to her place and took a few  photographs one afternoon.  And I could see why he loved the place so much.  It was lovely…and peaceful…and such a beautiful setting.

Even the outhouse was cool and perfectly placed in the tall shade trees.

After much rumination of the matter I decided to paint the view with the trees in front.  I like the way it turned out.  And she said her dad loved it too!  Happy 90th Birthday.
