Here is another painting in the “Farm Animal” series based on the wonderful animals of Suzanne McMinn from Chickens in the Road fame.

I love painting these little farm animals.  They are just adorable.  You can see more here and here.

I love this photo of my friend Suzanne McMinn’s goat Nutmeg.  They were calling her Rotunda.  That’s just mean!  This photo was taken just a day or so before she had two of the cutest little goats you’ve ever seen.

I couldn’t resist painting her.

You can see more about Nutmeg and all of Suzanne’s other animals at www.chickensintheroad.com .

I mentioned a few weeks ago here that I painted some chickens for a poster for the upcoming Retreat hosted by Suzanne McMinn of Chickens in the Road fame.  That art is featured on her website now.  Take a look at it here.  I am looking forward to being a part of the Retreat as I will be teaching several painting workshops.  And the good news is there is only a few spaces left.  It fills up fast!

A few days ago I told you about my friend Suzanne McMinn with a blog called Chickens in the Road.  I am painting this in order to make a poster for her upcoming Retreat.

I took a few photos of he painting along the way so that I could show you the progress.

And this is how it turned out.  “Chickens in the Road” is an oil painting on canvas measuring 16″x20″.  I think it will work well for a poster for the upcoming retreat.  All of the attendees will receive one as a memento of the weekend.  I’m looking forward to it as I will be teaching some painting sessions.  You can see more about them on the workshop tab above or here.

Bob Cat, acrylic on gallery wrap canvas, 6″x6″.  This painting was a gift to Allen.  Bob is one of the five cats that takes care of the warehouse.

Bob Cat posed perfectly for me one day when I was there with my camera.  He’s a very handsome cat….and I think he knows it.

Degas’s Horses is an acrylic measuring 11″x14″.  It is available at the Blue Ridge Arts Council.   This demonstration piece is one that I did this summer at Art Camp during famous painters week.  One way that artists over the ages have learned to paint is by copying the masters.  I simplified Degas’s painting so the kids could paint it.

At the Festival of Leaves last Saturday I worked on a couple of the Farm Animal series paintings.

The first was Mean Rooster from Suzanne’s farm.  You can read more about him here

This was the beginning of the painting.

And I made progress on it throughout the day.

And here’s Mean Rooster nearly finished.  This is an oil painting on 8″x6″ canvas panel.  He is part of the Farm Animal Series that you can see at Delilah’s on Main Street in Front Royal.

Suzanne’s Scarecrow, acrylic on panel, 6″x8″, $135.  This is another in the farm animal series that I started a few years ago thanks to Chicken’s in the Road’s Suzanne McMinn.  She has a terrific blog; check it out.  And she takes fabulous photos of her animals and has graciously allowed me to use them as inspiration for this series.  Thanks again Suzanne.  We all love your babies!

All the while we are painting the huge mural with all the farm animals in the middle of the room for Suzanne McMinn we are also working on a few little side paintings.

This is Sugar, one of the 10 or so cats that live at the farm.  She is just too cute.

And this is Beulah Petunia, the milk cow.  She is painted on the wall leading out to where her pen is and where she gets milked.  If you could see through the window on the door you would see her out there.

And if you ever watched Suzanne milk “BP” you would understand the reasoning for this composition.  She puts a bucket of corn and grain in front of her and she continuously eats while Suzanne milks her.  The chickens come from all around because BP drops some of the corn and they want it too!

Linda painted this nice vignette above the stove.  It really adds so much to the kitchen area.  Great job Linda!

And here are Linda and I with our host, Suzanne.

I think Suzanne really loved the final result, especially her beloved BP!
